Familienhotel Weimar

Family Hotel

About Familienhotel Weimar

Familienhotel Weimar is a small hotel built of wood and clay in the Seifengasse, let as holiday apartments for two to seven people, each with a kitchen and a small balcony. The outer walls are thirty-four centimetres of solid timber joined without glue or anything else from the building-chemicals trade, the floors oiled larch, the walls coloured clay plaster with heating inside them, planned and built by architects, designers and craftsmen from the region. In 2013 it took both the Thuringian timber-construction prize and the Thuringian tourism prize.

Wood, clay and no glue

Outer walls of solid wood thirty-four centimetres thick, made without glue or other products of the building-chemicals trade; floors of oiled larch boards; coloured clay plaster on the walls with wall heating behind it for a healthy indoor climate; furniture of solid wood from the joiner. There is a lift, and bicycles are parked in the yard under the apple tree.

Gretchens, and where to park

The hotel's own restaurant is Gretchens Restaurant & Café: an organic bakery for what the house calls the best hand-made baked goods, and a wholefood kitchen from morning to evening. Parking is ten marked spaces on the Marienstraße between numbers 6 and 8, signed 'Familienhotel' and opened with a code; the Seifengasse itself is narrow, and anyone arriving by satnav should park nearby and walk the last hundred metres.
