The Nietzsche-Haus is the flat on the Weingarten that Nietzsche's mother took in the summer of 1858, where he grew up and went to school, and where he returned, ill, after his 1889 collapse.
Growing up on the Weingarten, from 1858
Franziska Nietzsche brought her two children to a bright upper-floor flat at Weingarten 18 in the summer of 1858. Friedrich went to the town's elementary school, then the cathedral grammar school, before moving on to the boarding school at Schulpforta[1] — Naumburg carried him from childhood through the years that made him a classicist before he was twenty.
The house he came back to, 1889–1994
After his collapse in Turin in January 1889, Nietzsche was brought back to this house, where his mother nursed him until her own death in 1897;[2] his sister then moved him to Weimar. A permanent exhibition on his life and work has been open to the public here since 1994.
