The Schillerkaufhaus is Weimar's largest fashion department store, its modern glass part at Schillerstraße 9a finished in 1999 — the Culture Capital year — after three years of building, to a design by the Tietz architectural office.[^wiki-schillerkaufhaus] It is run by the Konsumgenossenschaft Weimar eG, has step-free access and an underground garage, and counts among the hearts of the town centre.[^wiki-schillerkaufhaus]
The cooperative's house, 1999
The store belongs to the Konsumgenossenschaft Weimar eG, the consumers' cooperative that also runs the Goethekaufhaus on the Theaterplatz — two department stores named for the two poets, a few hundred metres apart. The fashion floors carry the label names on the glass front, over the entrance on the pedestrian stretch.
