Neujahrskonzert „… von Nymphen und Hirten“

The parish opens its year with Telemann, Heinichen, Bach and Caldara rather than with the waltzes the date usually brings — a pastoral title, nymphs and shepherds, and a programme of arias, overtures and concertos. Friederike Beykirch sings, the Ensemble Hofmusik Weimar plays and Johannes Kleinjung directs; the same soprano and the same conductor carry the Brahms Requiem in this church in November, so this is the parish's own musical household at work rather than a New Year's turn brought in for the day. It starts at four in the afternoon and is scheduled to the hour, which makes it a festive concert you can hear and still travel afterwards.
