About Weihnachtsoratorium
The Christmas Oratorio is six cantatas, one for each of the feast days from Christmas Day to Epiphany, and it is almost never done whole; this evening takes the first three, which carry the nativity itself. What makes hearing it here different from hearing it anywhere else is simply where you are sitting: Bach spent nine years in Weimar as court organist and Konzertmeister, and the town church is the parish church of that town. The Bachchor Weimar sings, with the Evangelische Singschule Weimar, soloists and orchestra. Tickets are charged.

He wrote it in Leipzig, long after Weimar — but the choir performing it is the town's Bach choir, in the parish church of the town where he spent nine years at the court.
