Leonce und Lena

A prince and a princess are betrothed to each other without having met, both run away from the wedding, and both fall in love with the stranger they meet on the road, who is of course the person they were escaping. Büchner wrote it in his early twenties, a few years before he died at twenty-three, and the boredom his characters complain about is the funniest thing in German romantic comedy precisely because the man writing it had none of their time to spare. The Junge Komische Bühne Würzburg brings it to the mon ami for a single Sunday evening.
