About Sächsischer Hof
Sächsischer Hof is a traditional inn with a beer garden, standing by the Herder church and serving what it calls hearty Thuringian cooking — the unreconstructed version, with no apology attached. It's said to have two hundred years of hospitality behind it,[1] and keeps unusually long hours for a kitchen of this kind: from eleven in the morning, five days out of seven.
The beer garden by the church
The garden is at the Eisfeld, immediately by the Herder church, on the quieter side of the old town rather than on one of the squares that fill with visitors. Serving runs from eleven until ten, Thursday through Monday. Wednesdays it opens only in the evening, and Tuesdays not at all.
