About Berlin. Die Sinfonie der Großstadt
Walter Ruttmann cut Berlin. Die Sinfonie der Großstadt out of documentary footage in 1927: no plot, no stars, one day in a city from the first train at dawn to the last of the night, edited to a rhythm that makes the word symphony in the title mean something. The Staatskapelle Weimar plays Tobias PM Schneid's score of 2015/16 to it live, for one evening.

Historical periods
The film is of 1927 — made in, and about, the republic that took this city's name.
Germany's first democracy is named after this town for an almost accidental reason: in 1919 the capital was too dangerous to write a constitution in, and Weimar was quiet.
