Bilder einer Ausstellung

Mussorgsky wrote Pictures at an Exhibition for piano, walking the listener from one picture to the next through a memorial show of a friend's work — the promenade between them is the piece's spine. Most people know it in Ravel's full orchestral colours; Andreas N. Tarkmann's arrangement reduces it instead to twelve wind instruments and a double bass, which brings the whole gallery within arm's reach of the audience. It is played for school groups, on the Redoute stage in Weimar Nord.
