About Willkommen und Abschied
The house's own players open its 2026/27 chamber music series here: the Amalia Quartett — Barbara Seifert and Astrid Schütte, violins, Almut Bormann, viola, Astrid Müller, cello — with Gade's string quartet »Willkommen und Abschied« of 1840 and Grieg's first quartet in G minor, op. 27. The house hears Mendelssohn's lightness in the Gade, which is no coincidence: Mendelssohn was Gade's patron in Leipzig. The Grieg it calls one of the most intense chamber works of its century. And in this town, one thing is worth knowing before you read the poster: the title Gade's quartet carries is also that of one of Goethe's best-known early poems — a coincidence of titles, not a programme note.
