Almost everyone has read him and everyone thinks they somehow know him — Faust. The house opens with that, and then produces Goethe's own warning: Faust is such a strange individual that few people can feel their way into his states of mind. The evening is the remedy. Eva-Maria Ortmann and Heinrich Kus take the audience on a rollercoaster through the heights and depths of the Faust material, criss-crossing five centuries of it — the legend before Goethe, Goethe, and what came after.
