Faust – Ein Meer mit Noten

The house is explicit about who this evening is for. It promises the familiar verses and the less familiar ones out of what it calls the nation's bible — and promises them away from canon-knowledge and the boredom of the classroom, which is a fair description of the injury most German adults are carrying where Faust should be. An actor and a musician do it together, and the music is not decoration: it is what keeps a verse drama moving for people who last met it as homework. Clever, reflective, enjoyable and refreshing is the house's own claim, and the ordering of those four words is about right.
