Schiller zum Verlieben

Weimar has decided what Schiller was: high-minded, ill, and morally strenuous. This evening goes looking for the other one. It works through the passionate moments in the plays — the shot in Wilhelm Tell, the knight sent to fetch a glove, the household of the Glocke — and asks, with some scepticism, whether the man who wrote them was romantic himself, given what is known about his appearance and his health. The question is left properly open, which is the honest place to leave it, and the material is strong enough to carry either answer. A singer, an actor and an accordion.
