Arbeit und Herkunft

Forty people in Weimar answered when the theatre asked about work and where you come from. Seven were chosen, as interviewees and as the performers of the resulting piece, and were asked about their working lives and how they see the society around them. Didier Eribon's »Returning to Reims« is the book behind it — Eribon, a worker's child who meant to be a schoolteacher and failed the entrance exam, writes about crossing between social and economic worlds. On stage are people from 19 to 64, none of them from academic households, talking about careers, upbringings and what counts as success. Part of the text came out of creative writing: letters addressed to the world of work.
