About Ich weiß nicht was ich bin, ich bin nicht was ich weiß

Nadja Robiné reads and Claudia Mende plays: a programme of German baroque literature — Opitz, Gryphius, Herder among others — following what the seventeenth century kept coming back to, which was transience, war and peace, love, faith and pleasure, usually several of them at once. The music runs from Telemann, Marini and Biber to Bach. The title is a couplet of Angelus Silesius, and it does the century's work in one line: to know yourself and to be yourself turn out not to be the same task.
