Holst wrote the seven movements from astrology rather than astronomy — Mars as the bringer of war, Jupiter as jollity — and finished Mars just before the First World War made it sound like prophecy. Arvo Pärt's Fratres opens the evening, and the Staatskapelle shares the platform with the STÜBAphilharmonie.
