Kairos

East Berlin at the end of the eighties. Katharina is nineteen; Hans is more than thirty years older, married, a father, a writer inside the city's art scene. He opens art and philosophy to her and she takes the meeting for a singular moment — a kairos. Then he begins prescribing how their love is permitted to unfold, and while she fights her way out of a relationship turning poisonous, the GDR comes apart around her. Erpenbeck's novel took the International Booker Prize in 2024 and is here in a stage version, on the Studiobühne.
