About Prokofjew 7
Tchaikovsky's fantasy overture opens the evening — the love theme everybody knows, with the feud music closing in on either side of it. Then Oskar Böhme's trumpet concerto, close to the only Romantic concerto the instrument owns, by a German who spent his working life in St Petersburg. And then Prokofiev's Seventh, the last symphony he finished, written with young listeners in mind and ending, as he first wrote it, by quietly dissolving rather than by finishing.
