The house's own line for it is the Nibelungs, cheeky and funny, and that is a more interesting proposition than it sounds. This is the material German nationalism spent a century taking with lethal seriousness: the dragon's blood, the invulnerable back, the loyalty that ends with everyone dead. Playing it for laughs in a hundred-seat room is not disrespect but a kind of disarming, and it puts the story back where epics start — one person telling it to a small group of people who are allowed to find parts of it ridiculous.
