An exhibition that puts historical postcards and photographs of the Bauhaus sites beside a projection of how those same buildings look now.

A postcard is evidence

Buildings this famous are usually shown through architects' photographs, taken once and reproduced forever. Postcards are the opposite: casual, commercial, taken because somebody thought the building worth sending. Setting them against current views turns the question from what the Bauhaus sites are to what people have made of them over a century.

The occasion, and what was new in it

It marked thirty years since the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau were inscribed on the World Heritage list in December 1996. The material came from the Dicke collection, which the foundation acquired in 2022 and showed publicly here for the first time.

Two towns, one inscription

Weimar's part of that listing is the Haus Am Horn; Dessau's is the school building Gropius built after the Bauhaus left here. Shown together, the two buildings make one point: Weimar's site and Dessau's carry the same UNESCO inscription.
