Jüdisches Leben in Weimar
23 September 2026 · 10:30 Uhr
Two hours, on announced dates
Seven hundred years of Jewish Weimar, walked in two hours — the flourishing as well as the destruction.
Bauhaus walk
Students walk you through the buildings the Bauhaus actually worked in — starting in the courtyard where it was founded.
Fridays and Saturdays at 14:00, and Wednesdays too from 21 March to 1 November
The walk starts where the Bauhaus started, and the person leading it studies in the building — a student guide taking you through the school's own founding sites.
The main building of today's Bauhaus-Universität went up between 1904 and 1911 to Henry van de Velde's plans, as the studio building of the Grand-Ducal Saxon School of Fine Arts. Gropius opened the Bauhaus inside it in 1919 — so the school began in rooms designed a decade earlier by someone else, for a different idea of what an art school was.
The short version runs about ninety minutes and stays on the campus. The long one, about two and a half hours, continues to the Haus Am Horn — the single piece of Bauhaus architecture ever completed in Weimar, built in 1923 as the school's prototype house to Georg Muche's design. If you only do one, the difference is between seeing where the Bauhaus taught and seeing what it built.
Fridays and Saturdays at 14:00 all year, with Wednesdays added from 21 March to 1 November. The long walk runs only in that summer half — so if the Haus Am Horn is the reason you are going, you have to come between those dates. Book online in advance or at the Tourist Information.
