About Großer Stadtrundgang
The full circuit on foot — and its virtue is that Weimar is small enough for a full circuit to be possible in two hours at all.
What the route takes in
It starts on the market square and takes in the Platz der Demokratie and the city palace, the Anna Amalia Library, Goethe's ginkgo, the Park an der Ilm with his garden house, the house where Liszt lived, van de Velde's university building, the historic cemetery, and the two poets' town houses — ending at the monument on the Theaterplatz where most visitors take the photograph.
What the guide adds that a map cannot
Twenty-five people at most, and someone who can connect the stops. That is the whole difference between this and walking the same streets with a plan in your hand: the route is a sequence of relationships — who lived how far from whom, who was answering whom — rather than a list of buildings that happen to be near each other.
Before you book
Two and a half kilometres on foot over two hours, and the tour is explicitly not suitable if walking any distance is difficult. It runs twice a day, which makes it the easiest thing in Weimar to fit around a train.
