Jüdisches Leben in Weimar
23 September 2026 · 10:30 Uhr
Two hours, on announced dates
Seven hundred years of Jewish Weimar, walked in two hours — the flourishing as well as the destruction.
Classical Weimar old town walk
Ninety minutes on the decades that made the town's name, walked on a Friday evening or Saturday afternoon.
Fridays at 18:00 and Saturdays at 16:00, about ninety minutes
Ninety minutes narrowed to the classical decades — the years when Goethe, Schiller, Herder and Wieland were all working in the same small town — and to the places they worked in.
The big city circuit covers everything Weimar is known for. This one does the opposite: it takes a single period and stays inside it, which means fewer stops and more said at each. If you already know why the town matters, this is the walk that adds something; if you do not, take the general one first.
The market and the palace, the town church, the theatre square, both poets' houses, the Park an der Ilm with the garden house, the Platz der Demokratie with the Anna Amalia Library, and the Fürstenhaus. Walked in sequence, the distances make the point no book quite manages — these people were neighbours, and the whole of it fits in an afternoon's stroll.
