About Internationaler Museumstag
A nationwide day for museums, kept in Weimar by the foundation's own houses with a programme built for people who do not spend their weekends in museums.
A national day, kept house by house
In Germany the day is coordinated by the Deutscher Museumsbund together with the regional museum associations and the museums themselves, with ICOM Germany behind it, and a national platform gathers what everyone is doing. That is the framework; what a visitor actually meets is whatever the local houses decide to make of it.
What the Weimar houses make of it
Short drop-in visits to Goethe's house and Schiller's, Goethe's house again in virtual reality, a tour into the book tower, a collage workshop, a craft café building a wooden organiser board, and an open running meet in the park. The list is deliberately unserious in places — the point of the day is the people who would not otherwise come through the door.
