About Trickster, Trickster

A short run of outdoor theatre at the end of August, staged in the garden of the German Bee Museum — about as far from the Theaterplatz, in every sense, as Weimar's summer gets.

The subject is the pleasure of chaos

The trickster is the disruptive figure of folklore — the one who overturns the order of a story for the sake of overturning it. A piece built on that, played outdoors by four actors with a director and a musical director, is a deliberately unruly thing to put on in a town whose entire cultural identity is order, proportion and the eighteenth century.

The bee museum is the point, not an accident

Weimar's summer programme is otherwise held on the four squares of the old town. This one sits in a museum garden on the edge of things, which changes the audience and the evening: you go out to it deliberately rather than walking past and stopping, and what you get is a garden, four performers and the dark coming on.
