Kunstfest Weimar
21 August – 6 September 2026
Late August into early September
Central Germany's largest festival of contemporary arts, closing the city's summer at the turn from August into September.
Weimar Master Classes
A fortnight of international master classes at the conservatory — and the public gets to sit in on the concerts.
The next edition has not been announced yet
For a fortnight from the end of July the conservatory fills with musicians who have come to be taught — and the teaching is not the private part: the course concerts, the films and the closing night are all open to anyone who turns up.
Violin with Nora Chastain and Tanja Becker-Bender, cello with Wen-Sinn Yang and Troels Svane, flute with Anna Garzuly-Wahlgren, piano with Lilya Zilberstein and Imre Rohmann, composition with the Rome prize-holders of the Villa Massimo, and an orchestra studio alongside them. The 2026 edition was the sixty-sixth.
Course concerts run through the fortnight in the conservatory's own halls, music films are shown at the mon ami cinema, and the academy ends with a concert at the Weimarhalle in which the participants judged best play with an orchestra. None of it requires any connection to the school.
Hearing a musician at the exact moment they are being pushed past their present level is a particular kind of evening, and quite unlike a finished concert.
